Lindbergh, Charles A (1902-74) Pioneer aviator who in 1927 made the first solo, non-stop trans-Atlantic flight. Autograph letter signed ("C.A. Lindbergh"), on letterhead engraved "Charles A. Lindbergh / c/'o The Daniel Guggenheim Fund For the Promotion of Aeronautics, Inc….," 1 page, 11 x 8½ in., New York City, June 2, 1930. Light toning and file holes. To Commander P.V.H. Weems, who had spent two weeks in 1928 instructing Lindbergh in his more practical system of celestial navigation. Weems improved the processes and equipment for fixing position, influencing the air navigation programs of U.S. airlines and the military. He also established programs and schools to educate many of the most influential aviators of the 1930s. Lindbergh stayed in touch with Weems, as seen here, and helped promote Weems' new air navigation business. In part: "I am very sorry that I did not see you when the Fleet was in New York…I certainly appreciate your suggestion that I attend the Eighteenth Division Veterans Association reunion….We used one of your sextants and a great deal from your System of Navigation on our last trans-continental trip. Mrs. Lindbergh took all of the sextant readings in addition to working them out and doing most of the navigation. We saw a great deal of Mr. Gatty while we were in Los Angeles and I believe that he is carrying on the navigation work in an excellent manner."
Together with an inscribed and signed photograph, "To Seymour Halpern / Clarence D. Chamberlin," 6½ x 4¾ in. A head and shoulders shot of the aviation pioneer wearing an aviator cap and goggles. Chamberlin (1893-1976) was the second man to pilot a fixed-wing aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean, from New York to the European mainland, while carrying the first transatlantic passenger.

Wright Orville (1871-1948) American aviation pioneer. He and his brother Wilbur were the first to achieve powered, controlled and sustained flight (in 1903 -- with Orville at the stick) and flew the first practical airplane (in 1905). Following Wilbur Wright's death in 1912, Orville continued to experiment and innovate, serving as one of the foremost aeronautics authorities of the age.
Typed letter signed, 1 page, on The Wright Company letterhead, 11 x 8½ in., Dayton, Ohio, June 11, 1913. To Albert LeVino in New York: "Your letter enclosing your article in 'Leslies' was received. The article was interesting and well written, but I am afraid you give some of the United States Government officials credit for some-things which the facts do not testify. You evidently are not fully acquainted with the details of the early negotiaions for the purchase of our machine." Orville's brother, Wilbur, had died in 1912 and in 1915, Orville would sell The Wright Company. With a 1926 U.S. Navy Aviation Chart of the Baltimore-Washington-Norfolk area and a 1927 U.S. Navy Aviation Chart of Norfold, VA.-Morehead City, N.C.

Wright, Orville. Studio portrait photograph signed and dated, "Orville Wright / Dec. 17, 1928,"10 x 8 in. The photo was signed on the occasion of the International Air Congress commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight. Accompanied by a brochure from that event: "Brochure of the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Celebration of The First Successful Airplane Flight 1903-1928 Kitty Hawk, N.C. December 17, 1928," 12 pages plus wrapper.
